Salisbury steak

Salisbury steak is a comforting dish made from seasoned ground beef patties cooked in a rich onion and mushroom gravy.

Simple Salisbury Steak Recipe

Ingredients

For the patties

  • 500 g ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • Salt, pepper, garlic powder

For the gravy

  • 1 onion, sliced
  • Mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, and seasonings.
  2. Shape into oval patties.
  3. Brown patties in a skillet, then remove.
  4. Cook onions and mushrooms in the same pan.
  5. Stir in flour, then slowly add broth.
  6. Add a little Worcestershire sauce and simmer until thickened.
  7. Return patties to the pan and cook until done.

Best served with

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Rice
  • Buttered vegetables
  • Bread or dinner rolls

It’s a hearty, old-fashioned meal often enjoyed as comfort food.
