Garlic Butter Steak and Potato Foil Packets

A simple, hearty meal with tender steak, buttery potatoes, and garlic that can be cooked on the grill or in the oven.

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1½ lb (680 g) sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 lb (450 g) baby potatoes, halved or quartered
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the mixture

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F / 200°C) or oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine potatoes, olive oil, half the garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add steak cubes and toss with the remaining garlic and melted butter.

2. Assemble the packets

  1. Cut four large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  2. Divide the potato mixture among the sheets.
  3. Top with the steak pieces.
  4. Drizzle any remaining garlic butter over each packet.
  5. Seal the foil tightly to form packets.

3. Cook

Grill:

  • Cook 12–15 minutes, turning once halfway through.

Oven:

  • Bake 20–25 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and steak reaches your preferred doneness.

4. Finish

  • Carefully open the packets (hot steam will escape).
  • Sprinkle with parsley and serve immediately.

Variations

  • Add mushrooms, bell peppers, or onions.
  • Use ribeye or strip steak for extra richness.
  • Add grated Parmesan just before serving.
  • For extra heat, sprinkle with red pepper flakes.
