Does anyone know what kind of insect this is? I just found it on my son’s head…

Most posts like this end up being one of the same few things—especially when it’s found on a child’s scalp.

From your description (“found it on my son’s head”), the most likely insect is head lice.

🪳 Most common possibility: Head lice

Pediculosis capitis are:

  • Tiny grayish or brown insects
  • About the size of a sesame seed
  • Found close to the scalp (especially behind ears and neck)
  • Often come with itching

You may also see:

  • Small white “eggs” (nits) stuck to hair shafts
  • Itchy scalp, especially at night

⚠️ Important: it’s not dangerous

Head lice:

  • Do NOT carry diseases
  • Do NOT mean poor hygiene
  • Are very common in school-age children

🧴 What to do next

If it is lice:

  1. Use a lice treatment shampoo or lotion (pharmacy products)
  2. Comb hair with a fine-tooth lice comb daily
  3. Wash bedding, hats, and pillowcases in hot water
  4. Check other family members

🚫 What NOT to do

  • Don’t panic—this is very treatable
  • Don’t rely only on oil or home hacks without combing
  • Don’t assume it will go away without treatment

🧠 Bottom line

Most likely this is head lice, which is common, harmless, and fully treatable with proper combing and treatment.

If you want, you can describe what it looked like (color, size, moving or not), and I can help you confirm more precisely.
