A month before a heart attack, your body will warn you – here are 6 signs

Some people do experience warning symptoms days or even weeks before a heart attack, but there is no guaranteed “1 month before” checklist. Many heart attacks happen suddenly, and some people have few or no early symptoms at all. Still, doctors recognize several warning signs that shouldn’t be ignored. (www.heart.org)

Here are 6 common possible warning signs:

  1. Chest discomfort or pressure
A feeling of tightness, squeezing, heaviness, burning, or pain in the chest that may come and go. (www.heart.org)
  2. Shortness of breath
Feeling unusually breathless during normal activities or even while resting. (www.heart.org)
  3. Unusual fatigue
Extreme tiredness that doesn’t improve with rest, especially if it’s new or unexplained. (Cleveland Clinic)
  4. Pain spreading to other areas
Discomfort in the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or stomach. (www.heart.org)
  5. Nausea, dizziness, or cold sweats
Feeling lightheaded, sick to your stomach, clammy, or suddenly sweaty without a clear reason. (www.heart.org)
  6. Sleep problems or feeling “not quite right”
Some people report disturbed sleep, anxiety, or a general sense that something feels off before a heart attack. (Cleveland Clinic)

Women can sometimes have less “classic” symptoms, such as fatigue, nausea, back pain, or shortness of breath instead of severe chest pain. (www.heart.org)

If someone has chest pain, trouble breathing, or symptoms that are severe, sudden, or worsening, they should get emergency medical help immediately.
