I might stop posting if this one doesn’t get some love! Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

That caption is a common social media engagement tactic. If you’re actually looking for Chinese-style pepper steak with onions, here’s a simple version:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (optional, for color)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Toss the beef with the cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat the oil in a hot skillet or wok. Sear the beef for 2–3 minutes, then remove it.
  3. Stir-fry the onion and bell peppers until they’re tender-crisp.
  4. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for about 30 seconds.
  5. Return the beef to the pan.
  6. Stir in the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), and broth. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  7. Season with black pepper and serve over steamed rice or noodles.

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sesame oil just before serving.
