Good Old-Fashioned Goulash
This is the classic American-style goulash: hearty ground beef, tomatoes, macaroni, and simple seasonings all cooked together in one pot.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14–15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1½ cups elbow macaroni
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot or deep skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
- Stir in beef broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a gentle boil.
- Add macaroni, reduce heat, and simmer uncovered for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
- Stir in cheese if using, and let melt before serving.
Easy Variations
- Add bell peppers or mushrooms.
- Use ground turkey instead of beef.
- Make it spicy with crushed red pepper.
- Top with parmesan or fresh parsley.
