🍽️ Classic Biscuits and Gravy

🧾 Ingredients
For the Biscuits
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup cold milk
For the Sausage Gravy
- 450g (1 lb) breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
🍞 Make the Biscuits
- Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk just until a dough forms.
- Pat dough to about 2 cm (¾ inch) thick and cut out biscuits.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown.
🥣 Make the Gravy
- Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
- Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir for 1–2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk.
- Simmer, stirring frequently, until thick and creamy.
- Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne if desired.
🍽️ Serve
- Split warm biscuits in half.
- Spoon generous amounts of gravy over the top.
- Serve immediately.
💡 Tips
- For extra-rich gravy, use whole milk.
- If the gravy gets too thick, whisk in a little more milk.
