🥔🍗 Chicken and Potato Casserole (creamy baked comfort dish)
A hearty one-pan meal with tender chicken, soft potatoes, and a creamy or cheesy sauce baked until golden.
Ingredients
- 500–700 g chicken (breasts or thighs, cut into chunks)
- 4–5 medium potatoes (sliced or cubed)
- 1 onion (sliced)
- 2–3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 cup cream or milk (or a mix)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1–2 tbsp butter or oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried thyme or oregano
- Salt and pepper
Optional add-ins
- Mushrooms
- Spinach
- Bell peppers
- Crushed chili flakes 🌶️
How to make it
1. Prep
- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F)
- Lightly grease a casserole dish
2. Layer
- Place potatoes at the bottom (thin slices cook faster)
- Add chicken pieces on top
- Scatter onions and garlic
3. Season
- Add salt, pepper, paprika, and herbs
- Drizzle with a little oil or melted butter
4. Add sauce
- Pour cream (or milk) evenly over everything
5. Bake
- Cover with foil and bake 35–40 minutes
- Remove foil, add cheese on top
- Bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly
Tips
- Slice potatoes thin for faster, even cooking
- Use thighs for juicier chicken 🍗
- Let it rest 5–10 minutes before serving to thicken
- Add extra cheese for a richer “gratin-style” finish 🧀
If you want, I can also show:
- a healthy low-calorie version
- a creamy mushroom chicken bake
- or a one-pot stovetop version (faster) 👍
