Good Old-Fashioned Goulash

This is the classic American-style goulash: hearty ground beef, tomatoes, macaroni, and simple seasonings all cooked together in one pot.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14–15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1½ cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or deep skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in beef broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil.
  5. Add macaroni, reduce heat, and simmer uncovered for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
  6. Stir in cheese if using, and let melt before serving.

  • Add bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • Use ground turkey instead of beef.
  • Make it spicy with crushed red pepper.
