Slow Cooker Cube Steak and Gravy

🥩 Slow Cooker Cube Steak and Gravy

A simple, tender “set-it-and-forget-it” comfort meal where cube steak cooks low and slow until it’s melt-in-your-mouth soft in rich brown gravy.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 4–6 cube steaks
  • 1 packet onion soup mix (or 1 chopped onion + seasoning)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional but recommended)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 2–3 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Optional sear (for extra flavor)
    • Lightly brown cube steaks in a pan for 1–2 minutes per side.
  2. Layer in slow cooker
    • Place cube steaks at the bottom.
    • Sprinkle onion soup mix (or onions + seasoning).
  3. Make the gravy
    • In a bowl, mix:
      • cream of mushroom soup
      • beef broth
      • Worcestershire sauce
    • Pour over steaks.
  4. Cook
    • Low: 6–8 hours
    • High: 3–4 hours
    • Cook until steak is tender and easy to cut.
  5. Thicken gravy (optional)
    • Mix cornstarch with a little water.
    • Stir into slow cooker during the last 30 minutes.

🍽️ Serving ideas

  • Mashed potatoes (classic combo)
  • White rice
  • Egg noodles
  • Steamed vegetables

😋 Why it works

  • Slow cooking breaks down tough cube steak fibers
  • Cream soup + broth creates a rich, savory gravy
  • Long cook time = fork-tender texture

If you want, I can also give you:

  • a homemade gravy version (no canned soup)
  • or an Instant Pot faster recipe (same taste, 45 minutes)
