Peace lily: thanks to this one ingredient, it will bloom for up to 10 years in a row.

Claims like “one ingredient will make a peace lily bloom for 10 years in a row” are misleading. There isn’t a single fertilizer or household ingredient that guarantees a decade of continuous blooming.

What actually helps a peace lily thrive and flower consistently:

  • Bright, indirect light: This is the most important factor. Too little light often means lush leaves but few or no flowers.
  • Water correctly: Water when the top inch (2–3 cm) of soil feels dry. Peace lilies prefer evenly moist soil but don’t like sitting in water.
  • Feed sparingly: Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer. Overfertilizing can reduce flowering.
  • Maintain humidity: They prefer moderate to high humidity, though they adapt to typical indoor conditions.
  • Repot when needed: If the plant becomes severely root-bound, repotting into a slightly larger pot can improve growth.

Many viral posts recommend ingredients such as:

  • Banana peel water
  • Coffee grounds
  • Rice water
  • Eggshells
  • Baking soda

While some of these may add small amounts of nutrients or organic matter, there is little scientific evidence that they reliably increase blooming, and some (especially coffee grounds or excessive homemade fertilizers) can attract pests, encourage mold, or upset the soil balance.

A healthy Peace lily can live for many years—often well over a decade—with proper care, but its blooms depend on light, watering, nutrition, and overall growing conditions, not on a single “secret ingredient.”
