My nana taught me this hack to make dusty blinds sparkle in 2 mins with 0 work. Here’s how it works

That headline is another example of clickbait. The promise of “2 minutes with 0 work” is exaggerated—cleaning blinds always takes at least a little effort.

A common and genuinely useful method is:

  1. Close the blinds so one side is flat.
  2. Dust them with a microfiber cloth, duster, or the brush attachment on a vacuum.
  3. For dirtier blinds, lightly dampen a microfiber cloth with a mixture of warm water and a few drops of dish soap.
  4. Wipe each slat, then rotate the blinds and clean the other side.
  5. Dry with a clean cloth to prevent streaks.

Another popular “grandma hack” is to wear a clean cotton sock or microfiber glove, dampen it slightly, and run your fingers along each slat. This lets you clean both sides of a slat more easily.

A few tips:

  • Wood blinds: Avoid soaking them, as excess water can warp the wood.
  • Vinyl or aluminum blinds: They can tolerate a bit more moisture but should still be dried afterward.
  • Regular light dusting every week or two prevents heavy buildup and makes deep cleaning much faster.

So while there’s no magic trick that makes dusty blinds sparkle with “zero work,” using a microfiber cloth or vacuum first, followed by a damp wipe when needed, is one of the quickest and most effective approaches.
