Décolletage wrinkles: 5 tips to prevent and eliminate them… See more.

That headline is partly accurate but somewhat misleading. You can often reduce the appearance of décolletage (chest) wrinkles and help prevent new ones, but no method can completely eliminate them.

Here are five evidence-based tips:

  1. Use sunscreen daily
    • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to your chest whenever it’s exposed to the sun. Sun damage is a major cause of skin aging.
  2. Moisturize regularly
    • Keeping the skin hydrated can make fine lines less noticeable. Products containing hyaluronic acid or ceramides may be helpful.
  3. Consider retinoids
    • Retinoids (such as retinol or prescription retinoids) can improve fine lines over time by increasing collagen production. They should be introduced gradually and are not suitable during pregnancy.
  4. Reduce repeated skin folding during sleep
    • Side sleeping can contribute to chest creases in some people. Some people find sleeping on their back or using supportive pillows helps, although evidence is limited.
  5. Protect your skin from UV exposure
    • Wearing clothing that covers the chest or a wide-brimmed hat can help reduce cumulative sun damage.

What doesn’t work well

Be cautious of products claiming to “erase” or “eliminate” wrinkles in days.” These claims are not supported by good evidence.

For deeper wrinkles, treatments performed by a dermatologist—such as laser resurfacing, microneedling, chemical peels, or injectable procedures—may provide more noticeable improvement, but results vary and none stop the natural aging process.

So, the headline overstates what’s possible: prevention and improvement are realistic goals, but complete elimination usually isn’t.
