  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp flour (to thicken)

For the dumplings

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • ½ cup milk

1. Make the stew base

  • Heat butter in a large pot
  • Sauté onion, carrots, and celery for 5–7 minutes
  • Add garlic and cook 1 minute
  • Stir in flour (this thickens the soup)

2. Add liquids and chicken

  • Pour in chicken broth and milk
  • Add shredded chicken and thyme
  • Simmer 10–15 minutes until slightly thick

3. Make dumpling dough

  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt
  • Add melted butter and milk
  • Stir until just combined (don’t overmix)

4. Cook dumplings

  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto simmering stew
  • Cover pot with lid
  • Cook 12–15 minutes (don’t lift lid too often)

5. Serve

  • Dumplings should be fluffy and cooked through
