Celery, this plant cleanses the blood, skin, kidneys, liver, and pancreas in one fell swoop. To continue receiving my recipes, just say something… Thank you!

Posts claiming that celery “cleanses the blood, skin, kidneys, liver, and pancreas” are overstated and not supported by strong scientific evidence.

Here’s what celery can and can’t do:

What celery does provide

  • Fiber, which supports digestive health.
  • Vitamins, including vitamin K and some vitamin C and folate.
  • Potassium, which contributes to normal muscle and nerve function.
  • A high water content, which can help with hydration.

What it doesn’t do

There is no evidence that eating celery or drinking celery juice:

  • “Detoxifies” or cleanses the blood.
  • Flushes toxins from the liver, kidneys, or pancreas.
  • Cures chronic diseases.
  • Replaces medical treatment for liver, kidney, pancreatic, or skin conditions.

Your Liver and Kidneys already perform the body’s natural detoxification processes. In healthy people, they continuously filter waste products and metabolize substances without the need for special “detox” foods.

A healthy way to include celery

Celery is a nutritious vegetable that can be:

  • Eaten raw with dips.
  • Added to soups, stews, and stir-fries.
  • Chopped into salads.
  • Blended into smoothies with other fruits and vegetables.

So, celery is a healthy addition to a balanced diet, but claims that it simultaneously cleanses multiple organs or “detoxifies” the body are not backed by good scientific evidence.
