If your gas stove flame is weak or uneven, the burner ports (small holes around the burner) may be clogged with grease or food residue. You can often fix this with a simple cleaning.
Homemade cleaning method
You’ll need:
- Warm water
- Dish soap
- Baking soda (optional)
- White vinegar (optional)
- An old toothbrush
- A wooden toothpick or soft brush (avoid metal needles if possible)
Steps:
- Turn off the stove and let it cool completely.
- Remove the burner cap and burner head.
- Soak the removable parts in warm, soapy water for 15–20 minutes.
- Scrub away grease with the toothbrush. If needed, use a paste of baking soda and water for stubborn residue.
- Gently clear the burner holes with a wooden toothpick. Avoid enlarging the holes.
- Rinse, dry thoroughly, and reassemble the burner.
- Light the burner. A healthy flame should be steady and mostly blue.
If the flame is still weak
- Make sure the burner cap is seated correctly.
- Check that the gas supply valve is fully open.
- If all burners are weak or the flame is yellow and persists after cleaning, the issue could be with the gas pressure or the appliance itself. In that case, stop using the stove and have it inspected by a qualified technician.
Avoid pouring vinegar or baking soda directly into the gas openings or mixing cleaners inside the stove. The safest approach is to clean the removable burner parts and ensure everything is completely dry before relighting the burner.
