All you need is a dishwasher tablet! The oven will be like new again

That claim is a popular cleaning tip, but it’s a bit misleading.

A dishwasher tablet can help clean an oven, especially baked-on grease, but it’s not a magic solution and should be used carefully.

A safer approach is:

  1. Put on rubber gloves.
  2. Dip a dishwasher tablet in warm water (don’t let it dissolve completely).
  3. Gently rub greasy areas of the oven door or interior with the tablet.
  4. Wipe away the loosened grime with a damp cloth.
  5. Rinse thoroughly to remove any detergent residue.

Keep in mind:

  • Don’t use this method on self-cleaning oven coatings, aluminum surfaces, or delicate finishes, as the tablet can be abrasive.
  • Avoid scrubbing the oven’s heating elements.
  • Never leave dishwasher detergent residue behind, as it can produce unpleasant fumes when the oven is heated.

So, while a dishwasher tablet can be effective for some ovens, it won’t necessarily make every oven “like new,” and it’s important to use it on compatible surfaces and rinse well afterward.
